here's a track I'm working on, I'm having trouble with the high end, on some systems sounds ok, on others it's a bit harsh, what do you think ? That's my band by the way

That was simply fabulous recording and production! It sounded great on my Sennheiser headphones or it it sounded great on my KRK, RP-5's and I have no subwoofer. This was a grandiose production. Super great.

I think if you put some English lyrics to this... it would likely make the American radio pop charts? It's that good. I loved it. It was deep, high energy, beautifully layered.

Thanks for listening guys,

Kurt : I used NS-10Ms for the most part and a pair of wackies HR824 too, when i checked the mix using the typical el cheapo headphones that are intended for those ipods that's when I thought I went boost crazy with the high end, most of the mix was done at really late hours so I thought I might be going crazy :D speaking of live, this is a hard song to do with the band, the vocals and guitar parts are HARD enough separately, when I have to do both parts at the same time I'm in hell, when the verses come it such a relief :D

Toni : Thank you very much for the kind words ! I really appreciate it, I do want to try some lyrics in english but the band already wants to kill me for taking so long to finish, over two years overall ...

BT : Thanks for listening man, you're right on the squashed comment, it's my fault to be honest, I tracked the whole thing using only a drawmer 1960 mic pre that is kind of dark sounding and now that I listen to the whole mix I used too much compression at the recording stage, that thing really squashes your sound even if you're using two or 4 dbs of gain reduction, I gotta get something better asap, I also used a good old wackie 8 bus to mix, not the best setup but it's what I have at the moment so I did all I could to compensate ...

Im doing a few changes on the mix, I'll be back ;)

thanks again for your time guys.

i wouldn't worry about English. Spanish radio is one of the biggest genres' in the States ... far bigger than any pop sector. perhaps the only thing bigger than Spanish radio / broadcasting might be Country. Spanish is also the most spoken language in the world.

ns 10's should give you a mix that will sound good anywhere. perhaps you are being side tracked by the Mackies? i would just listen to them for a reference to the low end extension ... other than that, stick with the Yamaha's..

ooooohhuu! that comp on the Drawmer is a mucho hugoid squisher ... use it with caution ... it has a huge sonic footprint to say the least. that considered, i think you have done a great job. maybe someday you can post a video of your band playing this. i would love to see you sweating it out ...

Thanks Kurt ! I did some tweaks and used the NS-10's for the most part, I think it improved a bit : http://audionautas.mx/post/47609857974/abismo-by-audionautas-music-by-mario-audionauta

yeah, that drawmer preamp can really squash your sound if you're not careful, I've definitely learned my lesson, next time I'm not going to let compress more than a couple of dbs ...
