Just guessing, but he might be aiming for some entry level stuff. You can get a lot out of G4s, but of course a G5 can serve you better depending on what want to do. Personally I am using G5s for most stuff, but I am still on various G4s when I make music.

Anyway, http:// is a good advice.
The best reason for going PM G4 right now is if you are kinda forced to still work on big projects using OS9 software. A turbocharged G4 dual 1.25 using say Cubase 5 VST 32 does have a lot of punch. I am not sure a novice on the Apple platform should be getting a G4. Anyway, before investing in new Apple gear I would recommend waiting approx 10 days.. especially if I was looking for a secondhand G4 dual 1.25.

What kinda stuff are you going to use it for? Virtual instruments..?
What kind of music ? You are aware that Apple just might issue a low end G4 1.25 at 499USD or 699USD next week?
