Hey guys,

I don't post here often but I sure have gotten a lot of good info from this forum. I did a comparison of several midrange pres and recorded acoustic guitar clips that I posted on the TapeOp board in the Gear Talk section. The pres consist of Mackie VLZ, PreSonus BlueTube, PreSonus MP20, ART Pro Channel, Aphex 207, and Electro Harmonix 12AY7.

I don't know how many of you guys cross over to TapeOp but I thought some of you might be interested. Here's the link: http://messageboard…"]Preamp Comparison[/]="http://messageboard…"]Preamp Comparison[/]

Based on some of the comments here and the enlightening reference to John Rice's web site I did an opamp shootout on my MP20 with the Burr Brown 067, the Analog Devices and the Linear. I'll put up a new thread over here about that test. I'll give you the punch line now, though. Don't waste your time with the Analog or Linear chips. The Burr Brown opamps are the way to go.

Next geek project is to swap out the tubes in my ART Pro Channel and the EH 12AY7. I bought a bunch of tubes mainly based on Jonyoung and coyotetracks suggestions so we'll see what happens there.

Anyway, thanks for a great forum. Hope I can give something back.

I saw that post the other day 8th Note. Thanks for taking the time to put all that together; it's helpful information.

I wish people could hear the focus and dimension of the 12AY7 from EHX a little but mp3's are just a hack compared to what you hear in the 24bit domain. I think the sound sound just jumps out of the canvass with that unit and at less than $200 it's a ridiculous bargain. It pairs up nice with the Pro VLA too either as a mic pre chain or DI chain.

Thanks again for posting that one.
