I am in the process of remodeling my studio/office. When I complete it I am going to record and produce an audio book. I will be recording into my pc using Adobe Audition 3(as soon as it's released). I have a Shure KSM44 for my mic. My issue is from the mic to the computer. Do I need a sound card with some sort of multiple io or a audio card with just fire wire or usb io and an interface. Any help is appreciated.

Congratulations Kerby and welcome to Recording.org!

I'm not sure that you'll find that there will be a adobe Audition 3? I believe they have discontinued product? Last release was 2.0 but I'm still using 1.5.

You have a wonderful microphone but nothing to plug that microphone into? How did you get that microphone and what were you doing with it not being able to plug it into anything? Yes, you will need some kind of audio interface other than your computer's crappy soundcard. You need an audio interface that will provide you with phantom power for the microphone. I know you're probably wondering which audio interface to buy? That's pretty much depends upon your budget. You could probably pick up a Digidesign MBox2 mini, which includes ProTools, has a single microphone input with phantom power, a bundle of other software, all for approximately $300! Great bang for the buck and for spoken word purposes. Then, you need nothing else but your mouth.

Thank you for replying Ms. Remy Ann David. I guess I should have stated in my previous post I actually have a portable Pro Tools rig on a laptop. I have had that microphone for awhile. As far as Adobe Audition 3 it will be released next month. I am wanting to record on my home PC though and not my Pro tools rig. So I was wondering what audio card people were using and what non proprietary interfaces they were using. I also have a small behringer mixing board.
