I'm finally getting around to ripping all my CDs to my PC. I'm ripping them to lossless WMA and want to make two MP3 "mirrors" of the lossless files - likely 96kbps and 256kbps.
I'm hoping I can end up with 3 directories at the same level
lossless
96mp3
256mp3
and have a utility that will look at lossless and convert everything in all subfolders to MP3 in 256mp3, copying the directory structure, for example.
As a bonus, I'd love to be able to rip off more CDs in the future, restart the batch conversion, and have it skip any existing MP3 files.
I had a $30 program from "Riverpast" that did this, but the conversions from WMA to MP3 (using LAME) were full of bad skips. I've found a compule other batch conversion programs, but I haven't found another with the exact feature set I'm looking for.

I use an open source program called "CD Extractor" (CDex). It runs on all versions of Windows (I've used it on Win98 and WinXP). I used it to convert my entire CD collection to mp3 and it even removed skip/jitter from songs that won't play because of scratches anymore.
It basically has the ability to batch convert any audio format to any audio format maintaining directory structure and using directory recursion. It has support for MP3 (lame and windows), MP2, VQF, AAC, WMA, WAV, and OGG built-in. It can also use external codecs (got it to decode FLAC files to WAV- with no trouble at all). And you get to control almost every encoder setting you want to set.
