hey all.

i have a recording of a broadcast about 2hrs long, with a bunch of songs and comercials. i want to just cut out some commercials, and name/export the songs individually so they'll play in a playlist in my media player. it was originally recorded into Audacity, using the (internal) L/R of the laptop as the source, ie 'what u hear' option.

i have Samplitude prox3, Audacity, reaper, audtion 3, ozone standalone, daws to do it with, doesnt matter to me what one(s) i use.

thanks for any thoughts or advice!

Create Back up copy of original file (just in case!)

In Reaper:
Import original 2 track file to new project
Split 2 track file at all appropriate points between songs/commercials by placing cursor at split point and hitting "s" key
Delete all unneeded items (Click+Delete on unneeded items)
For all remaining wanted items create a "Region" (select timeline of each item and hit "Shift" + "R")
Each Region created will be numbered sequentially. If you want to name the Region to song title then Right click on Region Header and select "Edit Region).
When completed you are ready to Render to individual files.
Open Render Dialogue (in "File" menu)
Set dialogue boxes as follows:
Source=Master Mix
Bounds=Project regions
Output=Directory to store files
File name=type "$region" (This will name each file by name or number shown in "Region" header
Select Sample rate, Output format, bit rate, etc. as desired
Push "Render"

These are the "generic" options in Reaper. For repetitive tasks you can create custom actions and scripts.

Hope this helps!

And don't forget to CREATE BACKUP COPY FIRST. ;)

Thank you so much! That should give me something to do during the snowstorm out here! Im very interested in creating actions and scripts, since i've got a ton of stuff to archive and organize. ill look into it. very cool.
