hi everyone, been lurking around for a while.. finally joined after finding the jp22 fiasco thread.. alas, too late to contribute to that infamous, historic thread ...

since i'm new, a brief introduction... my name is James Murphy and i've been working in the industry for the last 18 years or so, though the first 6 were strictly as a musician. Been engineering/producing for the last 11 years, minus 2000-2001 due to a severe illness and surgery, and i'm opening a new SSL/PTHD Accel/2" analog studio in Orlando in just a couple of weeks.

i'll get around to some of the other forums on here soon and try to interact and contribute... but i thought i'd kick things off by posting some mixes from a production i recently finished:
http://homepage.mac.com/jamesfmurphy/lilitumixes/FileSharing6.html

I was commissioned to do that 3 song demo for the band Lilitu while i was in Atlanta doing an album for a band called Daath. anyway it was done very quickly, much quicker than the Daath mixes (those are up as well and are more in the death metal vein: http://homepage.mac.com/jamesfmurphy/jmprivatedownloads/FileSharing4.html), so they are a little less "polished". everybody loved them and all felt they were album quality as-is though, so i'm presenting them here as they got them rather than going back in and risking doing too much and losing some of the vibe.

if you like the band, visit them at their MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/lilitu
Daath's MySpace can be found here: http://www.myspace.com/daath

i welcome your comments.

James

Stuff is sounding great. Good luck with the room. Looks like you got lots of folks to get in the room from the people you know from looking on your site. I too am looking into a building an SSL room here in Chicago. I owned one a while ago and do miss that large format console and fat crunch 2" Studer sound.

James! Great to see you've joined here. I am a new guy here too. Good luck to you and your future studio. The mixes sound great. Need any engineers? I've been producing metal up here in IN for the past 8 years or so...

PM me if you wanna talk more.

THIS is fun! Hello and welcome, James! Well, the reason why I think this is fun/great is, that you, James, was my guitar-"God" #1, introducing me to the "sweeping-thing" ("Spiritual healing" I think ) back in the old "Death"-days 8) So seing you here just ROCKS!!
So welcome, and good luck with your studio!

James,

Welcome!
It's always good to have another metal-head around.
I'm liking your work!
If you can make your porta-gear sound that good, I can't wait to hear what you do with your own big-boy toyz!
Feel free to share any of your Murphy & Sneap metal-master tips 'n' tricks with us! (PLEASE!!)

My very best wishes to you and your new studio!
I look forward to reading more from you around here.

Lonewalker wrote: ...none of you could forget Cancer (the band!!), could you?!? No one ever mentions that band! The best album had James on the lead Axe. Check it out... "Death Shall Rise". James, did you live in England for a while when you were with Cancer? How long did that last? I though you did a great job!

cheers everyone.. nice to be remembered.. i still play and am on several recordings this year, including the the just released Roadrunner Untied project on Roadrunner Rocords, the new Nevermore and Firewind CDs, both on Century Media Records, The new Cannae CD on Prosthetic Records and the soon-to-be-releaseed new Rob Van Der Loo solo cd on Lion, and more. ngineering and producing have been a passion for quite a while now as well. 8-)

Lonewalker, i ws only a guest in Cancer, not a member, but i did spend a couple months in England with the band all told while rehearsing for 2 European tours i did with them. good times.
