Ok i'm not new to recording but this is about to make me bust my MOTU into pieces.

System

Compaq EVO610
1GB Ram
Pentium IV
Sybia Firewire Card
Nuendo 3
MOTU 8PRE
Alesis ADAT

I can record just fine set my mixes and record track 1. WHen i go to playback through the MOTU outs or headphones? I get this loud white noise. If you bring down the master fader (or channel) in Nuendo to almost no existent it clears up and you can hear what you recorded. As soon as you go past a certain point on the master it does the horrible noise again.

I've checked everything I can think or. What is getting me is I went to a friends studio booted up my laptop and plugged straight into his MOTU 828 hit play in Nuendo and it was perfect put all sliders at 0 and trucked on. Plug back into my 8PRE and i get this noise again. Please someone help me. This has got on my last nerve. I even sent it back and had them send me another unit just to be safe still the same problem. I tried even setting it as windows default audio playback and it does it when playing itunes and suck.

I noticed it has intermittent clicks and pops every now and then when opening programs these last a minute or two, well in that mintue if you press play the 8pre works fine as soon as the pops sto pi get the noise again.

Someone please tell me you can help because MOTU support is %^&*(.

I used to run a motu interface on windows, and i had intermittent pops and clicks too. Not all the problems you mentioned, but some of them. I was frustrated after dropping $2,000 on a HD192 that I couldnt use it to its even halfway potential, let alone its full potential. I really feel that it may be the drivers for windows that Motu is designing. It may not be, but in my experience the drivers for windows are a little more sensitive and unforgiving with the hardware in a PC. Maybe its an unknown compatibility issue with a motherboard, processor or whatever.
I later bought a Mac G5, and haven't had a problem since. Everything runs so seamlessly and tight, that I would never consider recording on a PC again. Im sure that its just not that easy to just get up and buy a mac, but maybe look over your hardware in your PC?

Good LUck!

ok guys i semi found an answer i brought it to my friends with the 828. hooked my 8pre into his computer loaded my drivers, but in the ASIO selction area mine has "FULL DUPLES, AUTOMATED ASIO, and MOTU AUDIO ASIO. His had all this plus MOTU FIREWIRE ASIO, and it worked perfect on his computer. this driver is not on the install disk i have. So i'm thinking i need his older disk if we can find it. Also i got a different cable, and not sure yet but may get a different card, though this one is working fine and recording just right.
