BTW, your website(s) and subpages are rather interesting. Some look right, while others look like kinda' wonked out aggregator's pages that have bad links in and out. You might wanna let your web dev know you're due a refresh.

And where on this Amazon site where will we be able to download this for free? I don't have a Kindle. And so you've done big-time production? Did you do your big-time production on a NEVE, API, SSL? Or do you have the audacity to tell us that you used Audacity? I know plenty of big-time guys that only used SSL analog desks. I don't qualify because I only have a 1970s all transistor vintage NEVE and about 20 extra API microphone preamps. I only utilize toy ProTools. I didn't have the audacity to spend $25,000 on a ProTools HD 3 or anything else like that. I wasted my money on all those old analog stuff. Stupid me.

I learned many of my production (mixing) techniques on a Neve Capricorn and a SSL 9000J. I used the Neve when I was working in Studio C of Avatar Studios in New York, and the SSL was in Studio A (or "1", can't remember) at Berklee College of Music, where I went to school. I have bought and sold several other consoles, both analog and digital, through my businesses. But today, my home studio only contains a Yamaha O1V and a Protools LE system.

Getting SSL or Neve quality on a limited budget is one of the primary subjects of the book. I use digital equipment at home, because it is more cost effective, smaller, and allows greater capability. On the rare occasion that I must have that Neve sound, I will go back to the studio to track that instrument, or better yet, I will just run the track through my buddy's Neve channel strip. Knowing how and when to use the expensive stuff prevents me from have to purchase it myself. And, that goes for more than just consoles.

Yup, for sure for sure. Though I wouldn't exactly consider the Capricorn NEVE to actually be a vintage NEVE since it was built by Siemens Corp.. Still a NEVE doppelgänger in effect. And that SSL, yeah, wow what a console.

Of course there is nothing wrong with your Yamaha. I'm sure your book will prove too many folks as I have always been indicating that it's really not the equipment but rather, what you do with it, how you manipulate it, that makes all the difference. I have, for numerous musician friends, gone to their home studios to show them, prove to them, how a TA-SCAM 2600 analog board can still produce professional quality results. That, along with nothing more than some SM57/58's without the use of cheap Chinese condenser/capacitor microphones. So it sounds to me, without hearing anything yet, that your book will benefit many home recording enthusiasts who want to produce a professional quality product. So I'm looking forward to reviewing your book. Though my review may not be quickly forthcoming since I have an hellacious week and a half ahead of me. That, along with a documentary film I have been working on since November that it is now five months behind schedule for delivery. Yikes! I shouldn't even be screwing around here right now because of that. But I've got to get my daily dose and fix of my Recording.org which provides me much enjoyment and my continued recovery from my brain surgery 6.5 years ago.

It is nice to have a discussion with someone who understands the philosophy. I have been reading these recording forums for a couple years now, and I have noticed a lot of misinformation. Not so often on this forum, but it is certainly happening frequently online. I wrote this book to give independents a fundamental recording philosophy to build from; one that focuses on what is best for the music, as opposed to the coolest piece of gear, or the most expensive piece. Though it was nice working with the SSL, I can say from experience that it is not always the best choice of consoles. Furthermore, it is not portable. So the tracking room in front of it had to be the right room for the instrument I was recording. Often, it was not the right room.

The book reads a lot about priorities like room acoustics, microphones, preamps, AD converters, etc. Most of the members on this forum understand that high end gear is not a substitute for knowledge and experience. Even all of my experience, and access to unlimited equipment, is worthless if I do not have a good song to start with. The book will help everyone focus on the things that matter most to making great records. Also, it should save independent recording artists thousands of dollars in equipment expenses, by identifying the things that matter most to designing a great signal path for an instrument. I am excited about it. I hope that you will check it out and it is free right now…
