I've noticed that some new commercial CDs show track titles and others just show track numbers. I'm now wondering if getting your song names to come up in certain players can present problems.

I was interested in producing my music on CD and naming my songs so they show up in modern players, but I'm not having much luck getting it done. Somehow I have to rip my songs back to .wav files, rename them, and then rerecord the .CDa. I don't like the idea of sending my tunes through so many algorithmic/dithering cycles.

Has anyone had any success presenting their CDs with the song names viewable to players? Is it necessary to put your songs through these multiple cycles to get the names on there in the first place? Thanks!

Hi, Opus. Great to hear from you again.

I write my songs in a Tascam 788 hard disc recorder and burn them in the attached Tascam SCSI burner. With this system, I can burn finalized playable audio discs or simply burn the raw .wav files to a disk in order to export them to my PC. I can also take any audio discs and convert them to .wav files with CDex or Exact Audio Copy, or write an audio disc from my .wav files with Nero and my Yamaha F-1 burner.

I think I'm missing something very simple in the task of burning the tracks with proper text.

I've only had experience with burners for computers, but the trick is writing a disc compatible with CD-Text (Nero will do this, but you have to choose it when you choose burn speed etc.). The names shown in your player will be the names you have given them in Nero (the screen where you can also alter the pauses between tracks), otherwise the names will be the file names excluding the .wav.

The only players I've come across that actually are CD-text compatible are Sonys (I guess it's a Sony standard). Maybe others manufacturers are compatible now...
