I own a PreSonus ACP-88 compressor which consists of eight compressor/gates. I use it exclusively for drums. I am having problems getting the gate to work well to eliminate mic bleed without the threshold set too high and decreasing the sensitivity of the drum, that is having to hit the drum extremely hard. The unit has key inserts on every channel and I would like to patch an eq into each channel so I can set a frequancy that will or will not trigger the gate. Can anyone recommend a quality eq unit? I'd like to keep the price down if possible but I need a good unit. Thanks.

Exactly,

If you're electronically inclined at all, you could make your own 8-channel side-chain filter in a 1RU Mid-Atlantic box. Like Ang said, the audio quality doesn't have to be great. Make a state-variable filter, tap the mid-band for the output, put in a bypass switch and frequency and Q knob per channel and voila! You probably could do the whole thing for $100-150.

Hmm, that sounds actually useful. Maybe I'll investigate it for myself...

Or you could just buy two Behringer Multigate's which have side-chain filters built in for a total of about $400...
