I recently bought an Equation Audio F20 Mic on the adice of a friend in Nashville, TN. I wanted something a bit better for acoustic guitar, for $600 or less, preferably less. I found a couple used ones for $250 each. Have to say, I really like the mic. I had some reservations as there weren't a lot of reviews out there, and the reviews I found seemed to be partially coming from the company themselves on the sly; I uncovered a thread where they have been found out...
Nonetheless, I like it a lot. IMO it beats my previous choices for acoustic guitar, and has a nice full sound - crisp highs, and fairly warm on the low end, smooth all around. It also performed admirably on solo trumpet - since I have so few mics, it was great to have an excellent sounding mic for an important trumpet project.
I didn't like it as well on a soprano vocalist. She has a great voice, lots of experience, and great presence in her voice, and it was just to crispy for her. But all in all I'm very happy with my purchase. Anyone else use one of these mics?

I've never heard of that brand? I've been around the block a few times. It only matters if you like the way anything sounds. A $100 microphone can sound like a $3000 microphone. A $3000 microphone may not sound as good as a $100 microphone. There are some microphones that are much more general purpose and a first choice because of that. There are others that are simply scrumptious, luscious, very expensive and sound like squat on the wrong person. Microphones are truly the engineers true color palette. This is where notable recordings start. The next would be your preamp. There have also been so many independent manufacturers of wonderful equipment, they are hard to keep up with. They don't have the financial resources to do anything but to create a product they can be proud of. And hopefully some people will recognize such? So it sounds like you are the lucky and proud recipient of a lovely microphone. Just like marriages, this probably won't be your first or last. We are like little kids in a candy store. This will never stop. It's a sickness. It's a malady. We are unrelenting in our pursuit of the perfect recording. Even a deaf person could understand that.?? Well maybe not?
