You owe it to yourself and your pocketbook to check out the Sebatron vmp-2000e VU ....

This is a wonderful sounding transformer balanced tube mic pre that doubles as an instrument DI and a line driver amp ... There are few stages of production that go on in my studio that do not use the vmp, from tracking to outboard processing and adding gain to a low level signal on it's way to being recorded ....

As to the 1272, you know that this isn't really a Neve design don't you? Real Neves have more gain and an an additional gain stage ....

I have used 1272's before, and while they are ok, I don't think they are much to shout about. Better than a PreSonus but not as good as a Sebatron IMO.
