Hi, i have just bought a PreSonus firepod from the states and will be using it in australia but i need to get the power conversions right in case i dont blow anything up :D. (the PreSonus adaptor has an input of 120VAC 60Hz 0.4A ans an output of 15VAC 2000mA). just wondering whether anyone can tell me whether this would be ok to use with a power converter (120v to 240v which is the australian standard) with a maximum output of 100W? any feedback would be great.

thanks,
spiro

When I went to New Zealand to make a recording, before I left the United States, I went to one of those international electronics stores. There are numerous power "adapters" available. I think you will probably find that any adapter worth having would-be sizable enough to take full advantage of a standard electrical home power outlet. So I recommend a simple 20 amp electrical power transformer/adapter. No active electronics. It's just a transformer. It's about the size of your fist and weighs in around a pound. Plus, It is bidirectional. You can step up from 120 volts to 240 volts or step down from 240 volts to 120 volts. So it would still be effective for a small guitar amplifier, some recording equipment, your laptop, etc. All at once.

By virtue of the electrical transformer, it offers further isolation and filtering. They're relatively cheap. So it's this little box that has both an outlet and a cord. With various electrical outlet adapters. You just have to remember which way/direction you're going. Up or down.

Double your voltage. Double your fun.

Even allowing for poor power factor, it should work fine as a temporary measure. A better long-term solution would be to find a 15V 2A transformer and fit the right sort of low votage plug for the Presonus unit.
