Hi - I am trying to deal with some issues on certain plugs that SX3 started having problems with, during the initializing process while Cubase was starting up. The conclusions on the Cubase board was that I would probably have to do a complete OS reinstallation as my registry was probably screwed. This wasn't on my top 10 list of things to do but I am willing to do it if nothing else works.
Before I do this I would first like to try uninstalling and reinstalling Cubase.
I want to know if uninstalling and then reinstalling Cubase will force me to also completely reinstall all of my plugins ?
OR
Can I save the .dll files somewhere and then just plop them back into the appropriate steinberg directories after the reinstallation ?

That is what I was hoping for.
I already know which plugins are the problem, I can't seem to get get SX3 to work with them.
Based on people I have spoken with they believe that the issues are in m registry and are therefore recommending fairly drastic measures (i.e. a complete OS reinstall).
I wanted to try reinstalling SX3 first before doing a complte reinstallation, thanks for your help, cheers!

Yeah. Any VST/VSTi's that required an installer will likely require re-installation if you reinstall the software. A lot of the time, though, the installer is just making sure that the dll goes in the right spot and the help files occupy space in your programs list. I would also recommend just eliminating the offending plug(s). But this advice is coming from someone who has every freeware vst known to man... or some men anyway. You could always remove the dll's and then select "repair" under the uninstall options.

It is a registry cleaning utility that helps to minimize the windows registry problems, like pointing to something that does not exist.
I have seen registry invalid keys, software entries, shared dlls, etc reach counts as high as 1,000+ on systems that have been cleaned. That is a lot of useless do nothing bulky headed for a crash crap and Microsoft should have built a registry cleaning utility in it's product starting from last century and beyond!
But they didn't.
I don't know why Cubase would remove or delete plugins indiscriminately that it had no part in installing. Still it would be better to err on the side of safety as others have suggested. SX3 will scan for plugins during startup and you can point it to a new directory if need be by selecting >devices>plug in information.

If you reinstall cubase and leave the plugs where they are now, they should all be there after reinstall but I think that you are better off moving them out of the VST folder and then bringing them back one at a time to see which one is hanging everything up. Best of luck.
