I've had enough of M-Audio.
With the vista driver fiasco of 2007 on my firewire solo box, I thought I'd give them another try, so I bought a firewire 610 on the basis of "I need the extra sockets" and "maybe it's time to upgrade".
Sadly the box isn't up to scratch and keeps dropping out (audio output stops, yet windows 7/vista/32bit/64bit report playback is fine). The solution is to turn it off and on again, which means closing down all the programs that were using it and re-opening them (usually having to load documents in the process). I received a big fat silence (no suprise) from M-Audio, and figure that I can probably send the box back under 'fitness for purpose'. I have a TI firewire interface, so I'm not going to start blaming that, and my drivers are up to date etc..
Obviously this is crap, so my question is, who out there is actually good? Are all vendors like this? Are there actually any vendors who supply decent products and the drivers to go with them in a timely fashion? Name your favorite vendor, and separately, name an equivalent to the 610 profire if you can :)

I guess this is what the profire would cost if it was properly supported and actually had 6 inputs that you could use simultaneously (as opposed to the hybrid XLR and jack socket employed byt he 610) (get what you pay for etc...).

As a side note, if the problem is not in fact with the device but with the memory controller chip on your computer then upgrading while beneficial will not completely rectify the problem. I'll take at face value that you have already tweaked windows specifically for audio. If not then this is the first place to start.

I tried this, installed it, restarted etc.. Left the computer on for 12 hours, came back and once again when playing back sound, nothing came through.
