Hey Guys!

I just can't say enough positive stuff about Summit's gear. The TLA 50 is a GREAT piece of gear. It does what it says - it is a Tube Limiting Amplifier.

If you are looking for a compressor - this is not the piece for you. It doesn't have variable knee, variable threshold, etc.

What it does do is allow you to drive a signal in and musically limit or squash the hell out of it. It does both of these things VERY well (as well as EVERYTHING in between.)

In other words, if you're looking for an inexpensive mastering tool for limiting - a pair of these will do GREAT. If you're looking at tracking with them, look elsewhere.

Their higher end compressor (DCL 200) is an amazing piece of gear, but nowhere near your desired price point.

Don't laugh, but if you're looking for a good tube compressor that will also limit, check out the ART Pro VLA. It is not your ordinary ART gear and it's used in a LOT of mastering and high-end facilities. (Most of them put some black electrical tape over the label  )

If you don't want tube, try the FMR. Their RNLA is supposed to be a little more colored than the RNC.
