ive just got into recording and have started with the lowest line superlux condenser. it seems to do an amazing job for the price i paid ($40). i will soon be purchasing another condenser but dont wanna go above $250. i am really interested in finding out how the Superlux CM-H8D sounds, because it seems like they are under rated mics that no one uses, but are extremely cheap and from what ive heard sounds great. but thats why I'm asking the experts here. how would this compare to a RODE NT1A or anything in that price range, for vocals mostly but i would also like to record acoustic and have a versatile mic that i can keep awhile. thanks.

I have used the Superlux CM-H8A for various instruments including vocals. I find for electric guitar this mic has been very good. For vocals and acoustic guitar - not the results I was looking for.

I have not used the NT1A but...

I have a Rode k2 that I am evaluating, and so far I like what I hear for vocals. Based on my initial try-out, I think that this mic will also work well for acoustic guitar. I haven't tried it with electric, bass, or percussion yet. It's response is definitely smoother than the Superlux

Back on the Superlux, It's a bit "peaky" around the 4-5K range, but this has worked well for electric. One thing about the Superlux stuff is that it is cheap Chinese made. I've already had one go bad, and I'm not sure if I want to replace it with the same.

I have several more mic's that I am going to eval, but I'm waiting for them to arrive.

I have an NT1 and its a cool mic through decent pres- we actually did a shoot out last year and compared quite a few mics and pres and the nt1 compared favorably to a couple of 87's we used, but only through good pres- with cheap pres the 87s still had a sheen that in the nt1 was a shrill.
through cheap pres, such as art mps, behringers, etc the nt1 sounds very thin. I suspect this is the case with most of the cheaper mic offering. I heard someone say the same thing about the C1- though we did not have one at the time to include in this shoot out. 8)

Just supporting what Xavier has stated. I ran the Superlux through this new pre/comp I just bought (LA-610), and it sounded great on the vocals.

I have to say that I can't believe the difference a decent pre has made. Realtors always say "location-location-location". Now I know why I always hear "Good pre-good pre-good pre"!
