I'm trying to get decent latency with Guitar Rig 3. I'm kinda torn between the USB and FW interfaces. USB's seem to be cheaper but have more probs with the ASIO drivers. The FW's seem a tad more expensive but are stable. I just want to plug into my laptop and jam out in as close to realtime as possible. I can hit around 13ms with a rigged 1/4" mono to 1/8" stereo cable and stock direct sound drivers. It starts clipping after about a minute or two. 16-18ms seems the best, but I'm a fast player and the delay keeps throwing me off. Any and all opinions wil be welcomed. I just don't want to fork out the cash for another 5-600$ effects unit.

just dont run the guitar through with the output of the other tracks you're playing along with, ya know?

like, just monitor the guitar through the amp. then after you record your guitar part you can shift it the 16-18ms or whatever the delay turns out to be.

is it the best? no. will it work and save you $500? yes.
