Hello,

I want to get the best out of all my mic preamp's I have and I am not sure whether to hook everything up via ADAT or wordclock.

My current set up is I have a Rme hammerfall 9652 soundcard with a PreSonus digimax lt, ART gold dmpa pre, jlm ba2 mic preamp and a Behringer ada8000. I use Cubase sx3.

My best mic preamp is the JLM audio BA2 which is a 2 channel analog pre and I have that going line into the ada8000 for conversion with the ada8000 going ADAT into Rme soundcard.
The digimax is going ADAT into Rme also (that is the master) and the ART pre is going spidif into Rme card (it also could go ADAT but I decided to run spidif).

My question is, is this best way to have everything connected to get the best possible sound for what I use? Would connecting via wordclock make a difference, I am not familiar with it.
Any help be much appreciated . Thanks

I tend to use the ada8000 in a send return config
and I've never used the BNC word clock

the host computer and interface sends adat TO the ada8000 and this gives it an audio clock
ada is in slave mode

the output of the ada8000 send into the interface and carries the converted signals

but
I think I'd use the analog conversion in the Hammerfall
does it have a a line input for the Baby Animal ?

ah
I just did a google on the Rme hammerfall 9652 soundcard

I would still start with a TO and FROM the ADA80000 with a 2 optics

Set the audio session for 44.1 and 24 bit
set the ADA for external

BA into a line input and min gain

remember the ADA is a budget unit and the inputs are Mic/line
not great but workable

I often use the ADA and an Alesis Ai3
both very different units and both have their moments
