The MSP5s were always pushed here by Kurt Foster, and with extremely good reason. While a little 'crisp' for my taste, they were certainly extremely detailed, especially for the price, to the point that if I ever started working in dreamy breakbeat, I wouldn't consider anything else.

I eventually sold them and my other smallfields to cover Dynaudio BM15s which have imho the same midrange dynamic and detail, with a similar high-range extension and more accurate bass than the ported MSP5s. But a bargain and a great starter point they remain.

I purchased a pair of HS80M's a while back after doing a lot of research and comparison shopping of mid priced monitors and have been very pleased with them. I've heard a lot of people refer to the sound as bright. However, I found that along with that brightness is a considerable amount of clean imaging and detail. Additionally, the brightness can easily be countoured via the controls on the back.

For the same price point I could not find a monitor with equal clarity and detail.

I have a pait of MSP-10's and I find them to be detailed and accurate. They were reviewed (way back when) and compaired closely to the HR824's of the day with slightly better bottom end.

My biggest problem with them is the size of my control/mix room cannot handle them well. I have adjusted the high pass filtering on the back of the monitors, and mix primarily at low volumes, which helps considerably. I'm considering a second, smaller set of monitors for comparison/reference.
