Low budget - Art Pro VLA.

Mid budget - Lagevin El-Op (or Langevin DVC).

Bigger budget - Manley El-Op.

I'm pretty fond of the comp on my Focusrite Red-7, and both the 1176 and LA2A are long time favorites. Others include Tube-Tech CL2A, Groove Tubes CL1s, API 525, dbx 160SL, Manley El-Op and Vari-Mu.

I´ve used my NTP 179-160´s a lot on vocals lately. Very nice on most anything else aswell.

it depends. for dirty rock stuff, I've been using my Chandler LTD2. For more subtle stuff, I use a Summit TLA100.

I agree with Gaff re: the API 525, amazingly easy to dial in. BTW, the RNC ain't hardly bad for the money!

Great replies guys. I myself have only delt with the RNC. One day I will get something more high end. I must say though, I do like the RNC.
