I just got finished recording a hip hop vocal track and I wanted to know what ya'll thought. I need critique on the vocals only...i know that the beat is messed up. Thanks

That line is nice. Yea I actually used a behringer b1 single diaphragm condensor mic. The rest of my signal chain is pretty cracker jack though. I used a Focusrite MBox as a preamp and not an interface. Why? My laptop only has 256mb and will not support monitoring while recording in 24bits through the usb bus. When I try to use an interface the rapper will complain about skipping like a cd. So I use the phantom power and the direct monitoring off the Mbox and run it straight to the mic in port on the stock laptop soundcard. I also use Adobe Audition to do the tracking and I'm about to use soundforge to compress the vocals. Now David, when you said compression, did you mean the beat, the vocals, or both together. Also, I have little to no experience with compression so if you could, give me a ratio to start off with and then i'll tweak it to get the sound that I want. I'm going to try what David suggested as far as eq and I'll post the new version. Thanks to all who posted.
