Working on a rap album...I recorded my vocals the other day and everything sounds pretty good. My engineer suggests I get the song mixed and mastered.
My question is: What will mixing and mastering do to the sound of my vocals (i'm curious if this is going to make my voice sound even better? Also, how will the overall song be affected?
I’ve looked up stuff online but everything seem convoluted and I would rather just be given the opinions of people in the music industry. Thanks for reading and I apologize if this is posted some place else!

Think about this simple analogy...
A song = A Salad of fresh Vegetables!
You in first gather all fresh vegetables = Recording Process...
After that you should put it on a Salad Bowl with all the necessary ingredients, like salt, vinegar, olive oil and some other ingredients... then you mix it... = Mixing Process...
Mastering could be considered as the extra ingredient to make the salad tasting all together better for everyone...
Mixing process will give your songs the right perspective in terms of sonority, height, width, depth and of course extra processing to make it sounding dynamic!
Putting even more simpler, Mastering will put your songs with the right level of other mainstream and radio-ready songs, and with the right dynamics.
