preamps for vocals
Forums
Just wondering what you guys are using. I just realized today I've been using the same two for the last 9 years(Neve 1073 or Api 312). Once in a while I tried different things(Manley,Fearn,Avalon,Focusrite), but its funny I always come back to these two. I guess I was wondering if you had the same experience.

warm up exercise for the vocalist
Forums
A singer I know and respect has suggested, as a warm up exercise for the vocalist I work with, 30 seconds. . barking. I am to join in as well. So that we both feel silly, freeded up and the stomach gets relaxed (v.important for performance). It also takes the pressure off the singer if I do it too. I think it's a good idea.
I'll try it this week and let you know how it goes.

Best Vocal compressor plug?
Forums
What do you guys think? Maybe it's too much to ask in the plug world, but I love Clearmountain sounding vocals...solid, in your face sound. I'm just not getting there. I am using CompressOrban k right now.
Thanx!

vocal chain for bjork/garbage?
Forums
does anyone have any information on the vocal chains that were used on the latest bjork and garbage albums? (mics, pre, converters?) I think both were done in Pro Tools (or Pro Stools, depending on who you talk to ;) ) and I was interested in what they used to get the vocals onto disk.
thanks,
-neil

awsome vocals fxs
Forums
wassup everybody! i know this has been discussed many times but since vocals r such an important part of a mix i wanted 2 know how everyone's processing the vocals ? as 4 me, 1 of the things we do is use DMX 2 mix in -3cent n +3cent w/vox n then put 480 reverb on it, etc... which brings up this question. Is there an alternative to the DMX 4 doing this which will give equal quality results?

Vocal presence
Forums
Hi all,
I have been doing home recording for some years now. I started with 2 reel to reels, moved to 4 track and now use a PC. I have accumulated a fair amount of "OK" software and equipment - good enough for my less than perfect ears.
