Recording drums under less than ideal situations, please help.
Hi! I'm going to be recording a drummer to tracks already done. He's an excellent drummer with excellent gear, including mics.
I've got 2 choices - record in a reverberant garage (American style, 2-car, sheet rock, high ceiling, and pullup door), or record outside. It's in the country so outside noises won't be a problem.
Drums: Gain Staging
How hot should levels be going into the DAW? Peaks at -20? Should I make all close and far mics the same? Any other thoughts?

First time editing real drums

Check the Bricasti's out on drums!
Oh Ya! 2 Bricasti M7's are better than one lol:
I just did a mix for a guy on the slutz for fun. Spent a few hours, that's it. I didn't get all the track either so a bit is missing from the original. Not trying to get too involved but it was more to play with the second M7 that I just added. Listen to the drums on this compared to ITB. It was so easy to do this.

Building a large wood room to record drums
Ok so I understand that many professional studios use big open wooden rooms to record drums in to get a more punchy sound. I happened to come across an article that said if you go out and buy plywood to put over the walls (and floor if there's carpet) that it will help achieve something close to that sound you can achieve in the professional studio.
