Microphone Placement Books/Reference!
I know like most subjects in recording mic placement techniques are subjective, but are there any Holy Grail of references or books that cover the topic in great detail?

Looking to invest in a mic, but which one?
I mainly make trip hop, and the closest thing to mainstream I can compare to is Portishead type vocals. Very breathy, mid-range- nothing rigid or loud so I'm probably looking for a nice condenser. This will be for my home studio and personal use so I'm not worried about versatility- just something that will work for me.

Good mic + cheap recorder. Can it do it?
Hello, I have a basic question:
I have recently become interested in getting a portable digital recorder.
My main uses would be in speeches, conferences, and one-to-one interviews. All of this for personal use, and occasionally for web posting.
I would be tempted to record live shows too, for the same purposes as above.

Mic Clip Thread Standards
No idea where to put this thread... :/
I'd like to see some discussion/point of reference about those screw threads on the end of mic stands which you attach mic clips to.
Mainly,
What are they known as?
What sizes do they come in?
Are there standards?
What about the history?

Microphone for Grand Piano Recording
Hi. I need to record myself playing a grand piano. The repertoire is classical: chopin, beethoven, rachmaninov, etc.
It will be recorded both at home and also when I play live in a variety of concert halls.

1st Post: Live acous/elec gig room Micing - sml or lg dia?
Hello. This is my first post here on the forum. I've posted in quite a few other groups but hadn't found recording.org before. I thought I'd start with a question that I've tried improving on with fairly poor results:
Preamp and Mic
Just need some suggestions.
At the moment I'm recording straight from a sm57 into a PreSonus firebox into cubase. Theres not a lot of volume even with the mic preamp jacked.
I've got an ok voice.

Pickup/condenser mic recommendations for performance
Hi:
I have a Taylor 714 that I am particularly fond of. It is an exceptionally rich-sounding guitar for both recording and performing. The Sunrise sound-hole pickup I've been using, however, is getting on my nerves.
