Sennheiser MKH 416 vs. RODE NTG-3
I'm going to get a shotgun mic and came across this pretty convincing comparison. I'm not looking for stellar audio here as I would be hiking around the streets with whatever I got.
The NTG-3 does it for me
What do you think?

Microphone diagnostic question for those also having experience recording speech
I am going to be doing some mic testing shortly. I joked in another thread that it would only be on guitars, as there is not a mic in the world that could flatter my singing voice enough to tell if it was any good.

RODE MATCHED PAIR ( MODDED)
I have a matched pair of original RODE NT1's, and was impressed with the A/B comparison with the U87 after Michael Joy did his mod. I'm considering getting them bot modded by him and he said the will still remain closely a matched pair. Any input would be great, thanks

Tube mics vs. FET mics- what difference am I going to hear?
Yes, I know that strictly speaking this question belongs in the mic forum, but there appears to be many fewer readers/posters there.
The low down on USB mics
I see some mics as being USB, i.e., plugin directly into the computer. Are there advantages for this method? I am a bit confused as to where the gain comes from, if my audio interface with built in preamps is bypassed. Any insight into USB mics would be appreciated.

Can I use an outboard compressor on my dynamic mic line in?
If I wanted some compression on my acoustic before it hits my audio interface, could I put a compressor in between the mic and the interface? If so, what are the cons to this idea?
Dual Micing One Cone
Hi, I'm getting pretty tired of recording the same riffs over and over when multi tracking so I'm looking to reduce the time I spend on rhythm guitars by 50%
I'm pretty scared to dual mic the cone because of phase issues and I'm not sure if I have the right mics.
I've used SM57 and Beta 57 to record my guitar amps and I'm wondering if combining them would work.

Audio-Technica mic purchase
Hi kids. Uncle Dogg purchased a couple of used mics last night and I want to tell you about them and ask if anyone else has used this model or even seen one. .These are Audio-Technica ATM5R's. A small handheld style condenser, an SDC for sure, with a pop screen and a mini XLR connector. I had heard about these several years ago and was always curious since the report I got was sterling.
