I'm looking to get a new Mic Pre or compressor unit pretty soon and I wanted to know what gives that similar british flair for about $500 or under? I have a Joemeek VC3Q that I like alot. I was thinking about the RNC but it's pretty transparent. I might still pick one up but what other options do I have?

I've seen a few kits on the net that you can get for around a thousand dollars that are supposed to be API and Millennia copies. The circuit design looks very simple especially on the MM-990. its an epoxy molded gain circuit that needs a power supply and phantom power + a rack box.

I've owned this pre for some time now and have used it on certain occasions. I assume it has a bit of competition now-a-days. I don't hear any noticable difference between it and my TC Helicon Voice Prism I may use once in while for vocal effects. I've posted a topic or two about preamps and found out that you can't skip or compromise in this area.

Question...is anyone familiar with this pre? Looks cool but has a slightly heafty price tag. There's some other pre's from this company but I'd like to see what kind of quality these guys have. They say this pre is based around a Neve 1272 type discrete class "A" circuitry. It's listed under the Caswell Audio Series. Also they say their comp/limiter (the C2s) is base around the Urei 1176.

Hey Guys! After talking with many of you about gear I narrowed my preamp decision to a Great River pre that sells for $1075 but...today I stopped by a local dealer and the manager wants to blow out his Avalon M5's for $720 because he doen't want to carry them anymore. I wanted to get a Great River because many of you are thrilled with them and said that they are an awesome all around pre.

Does anyone have any word on the D&R mic preamp out of Sweden.? (I think)

There is a local distributor in Texas that I may get a review unit to check out if anyone has anything positive to say about it.

It is supposed to be the same mic preamp from their top of the line Orion consoles which appear to be pretty pricey.

What is your 1 or 2 favorite (or goto) microphone preamps for recording vocals?
