AMEK vs. . . Vintech eq's
How would you charactorize the AMEK Mic Pre / EQ in comparison to the Vintech Mic Pre / EQ or other Neve designs? In both Mic Pre and EQ?
Thanks,
Mike

Pro Tools must have plugins
There has been quite a lot of talk about ADC and clocking issues but there is another very important factor in making your PT setup sound like a professional tool, the plugins. There are hundreds out there and the vast majority sound crap! So here is my personal preference for quality sound:

Louder mixes without the damage
It's not a subject that I really want to spend heaps of time on because I think most good engineers agree that making something loud and ruining dynamics is a bad thing, but...

Acoustics 201...
I'd been having a lot of trouble getting my mixes to translate well to other systems (a lot of trial and error - mostly error) and I finally did a sine wave plot of my monitor/room. No wonder...as much as 20db differences at some frequencies (I did three runs and averaged the results).

Mid field monitor dilemma
OK I set up a 5.1 rig by 'loaning' extra Genelec's and had a fun time..
I can lay my hands on extra Genelec's with ease, this makes me want to stick with that brand.. In case of future 5.1 work..
But I think I need to tweak them a little...
I am considering getting in a BSS Omnidrive to eq my set up a tiny bit...

Jon Atack, Dave McNair, Angelo Quaglia...welcome aboard!
Hi everyone, a few changes have taken place this last month. As you must know we are a 100% indie site running on shear vibe rather than a cash pool. It's inevitable to loose people for coin. Fletcher and Mixerman got offered the big bucks to try and help PSW get off the ground and I don't blame them for taking it. Too bad we aren't "yet" able to pay everyone but maybe one day.
Any one here know VEGAS?
A guy turned up on the Forum I moderate asking about Vegas, can anyone come to his rescue?
(Dead Link Removed)
Thanks in advance!
:)

Focusrite Red Series preamps... opinions?
You know, I worked with this pre for a few days and thought it was wonderful. I rememeber, perhaps wrongly, it getting bashed as not being worth a crap. I was wondering what people here think of it and why. It doesnt get much attention in the top end pre market it seems. Actually, the only Focusrite mnetions I see are the cheap stuff and the ISA stuff.

coiling power cables?
I seem to have heard somewhere that coiling or otherwise bundling power cables up is a bad idea. Is this true?
I haven't been doing this, but none of my power cables exactly match the tiny space I have for them (i.e. they're all too friggin long), and they are starting to look like a plate of spaghetti.

MT4
Hi,
Desire to get Midi into a G4. Emagic's MT4 looks good on paper though it doesn't have the "active midi" feature of the AMT8. Anyone have experiences to share? Is it at least fast enough to realistiacally use it?
There's also the Romulus card and Keyspan makes a serial card to too. I'm going to hold off on the GPort because I have an open PCI card in the computer.
