How do I get great sound?

Hello, Just how do I get great sound? I'm talking about clear, no hiss, great levels. no harshness when playing the keyboard. My setup includes; Roland A90 master controller, Emu-Proteus 2000, Emu-Planet Earth, Echo Layla 24 Audio interface, Event Tria Monitors. Nothing in my system sounds right. the lows are harsh. The highs are tinny, with a pinging sound.

FATSO...or what?

There just hasn't been enough said about this machine...lately. Now that you've had the FATSO for a while...what do you think of it now? Do any of the Analog Channel type pluginscompare? If you had a FATSO, would you still want the plugins Basically, any thoughts on this piece would be helpful, I'm considering buying four.

Laptop PC Audio Chips

Does anyone have an opinion as to which is a reasonable Audio chip inbuilt into a Laptop ?

I want to monitor WA vs etc on cans strait out of the Laptop without an additional USB box PC card
etc.

I've seen Yamaha, ESS, and Crystal in various specs.
I know the inbuilt chips are all a bit dodgy but which is the best of the bunch in your view ?

Faking snares?

On my first big recording project, I've already screwed up (a bit). The drums are all tracked, and sound pretty damn good, if I do say so myself -- with one exception.

The snare was top-miked only, and because of that, the sound of the snares is almost completely missing. The snare drum sounds almost like a very high-tuned tom.

AKG coming out with a "new" 451

AKG is going to make a new version of the 451. No teeny threads on the capsule. I think they will be non-removable capsules, cardioid only (BOO).

The electronics are descended from the AKG Blue Line, and there will be 2 low cuts, and a 2 position attenuator, unlike the screw-in capacitive pads that Stephen Paul says messed up the frequency response on original 451's.
