I know that tube mics don't need phantom power because it has it's own power supply, but what will I need if I want to record straight from mic into computer?

I don't own a good brickwall limiter/maximizer in my drawer of plugins. And I know I can get one for $29 from Waves. But I own Waves Renaissance Compressor and was wondering how to build one, if possible with a few compressors chained together or something. I was inspired to try brickwall limiting to my music by a couple of sources. I play bluegrass acoustic music.

Hi my name's Mark, and I'm into recording at home on a very low budget.

I'm interesting in purchasing a beginner recording setup (nothing professional, just to be able to record a few songs.) I've never done anything like this before and I'm a total novice when it comes to recording so I'm seeking a package that will allow me to record in a relatively easy fashion, provide a relatively basic editing software, and create drum tracks with a simple drum machine.

I am multi tracking with a zoom r16 and I have recorded drums and ssome guide guitar.

Yesterday I set up my studio for drumrecording and noticed something very strange...I put a sm57 on the snare about 1" from the skin and 1,5" in from the rI'm edge pointed towards the center of the drum. I also put a mb2k from Audio-Technica under the snare about 2" from the skin but more straight angled on the center.

Hi, so I've got a pretty cheap beginning setup right now in my home studio. I have a chance to get some new gear for the holidays, so I'd like to know what you recommend I upgrade. I currently have a MXL 990 Studio Condenser Microphone (I don't have a shockmount though, is that bad?) and my USB interface is a Line6 Pod Studio UX2.

I am thinking of self recording in my home. I just dont know what mic to buy and what equipment to go with it?
