Royer rebate pretty sweet

In case you haven't heard Royer is having a factory rebate through September 30th. Pretty nice deal if you are in the market for a ribbon mic. $75 off an R-101, $100 off an 121, $125 off 122 and $200 of an R-122v. I think it's per mic if you by a matched pair. They have a rebate form to fill out on their website. Thinking about picking up an R-101...

Help me select the right gear for me

I have about $200-$250 to spend on recording equipment. I would just be having fun with my own music and would be recording an acoustic guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and possibly an electric guitar. Since I know virtually nothing about recording, I have looked into different "starter packages" to help me get started.
I think I have it narrowed down to two packages:

Looking for a 24in/24out optical to firewire interface

I had my heart set on a MOTU 2408 mkii to exactly what I need. Come to find out the firewire looking output wasn't a firewire output. So now my hunt is on to find just a straight 24in/out optical interface that sends the signal via firewire. I don't want to combine many units together to give me 24in/out, I don't need extra bells and whistles on it, since nothing else will be used.

International Podcast tech question - USA to England -

Hey,

I have a podcast that I've just started recording. The sound is terrible though. I understand that sound is the most important aspect of any podcast.

Here's my question.

I google hangout or skype with a friend who is 5000 miles away. I've been using my internal mic to record everything. It's pretty awful.

Passive summing, OTB calibration

Ok, so I just moved OTB by building my own 8 channel passive summing mixer (DIY Recording Endless Summer) and I would like some input on calibration. Here is my setup:

Logic Pro with a MOTU 828mk3 Hybrid

All 8 analog outputs are being used as 4 pairs of stereo stems (1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8)

Each stem inputs to the 8 channel passive summing mixer
