We are considering a property for a new project studio....an existing commercial soundstage....with 15.5 ft. ceilings and over 2800 sq. ft. It has a curved cyc wall, 20 ft. wide and 45 ft long.
Hello again RO. Been an eventful and long time since I've been back here. I finally opened my studio, Vibrations Recordings in September of last year with so much incredible support from so many great folks here for the last 17 years or more!.
This would be for new construction.
Are two layers of sheathing as effective as one layer with cut drywall laid inside, as in the Gervais book? It would save a lot of drywall cutting and caulking.
My workspace up until now has been putting my laptop on my dresser drawer, an SM57 w/ boom arm, and a MCA SP1 condenser mic balanced within one of the dressers.
My aim is to set something up something cheap and basic, yet that can provide professional results.
I only really need to record voice, acoustic guitar, and plugged guitars (bass, electric guitar).

Thinking about a video studio with two sets, one at each end of an isolated room.
Anything obviously terrible about this layout? Would the deflected walls / ceiling design be sufficient to deal with resonance?

I want to upgrade and purchase bigger midi controller keyboard. I know about AKAI, Alesis, Korg,and M-Audio. However I came across the Midiplus Keyboard Controller. The price seems to be attractive but I don't know so much about it.
I'm installing a wood stove in a recording room and I'm concerned about sound coming in from the chimney. Any suggestions for dealing with this?
There is a consistent noise source nearby which, so far, I have dealt with relatively successfully with window/door plugs. The stove would open a 6" channel from the room, through the ceiling/attic, and through the roof.
