Airborne sound insulation - what do the numbers mean?
Hi
I'm doing some research on converting my garage/basement (the house is on a hill so the back wall of the garage is essentially underground) into a rehearsal/listening/recording room.
I've been looking at 3 different wall systems from British Gypsum

acoustics theory behind an overhead dome
Hi Rod, Space, et al...
A few weeks ago, I was hired to do a remote for a band - actually, to mic up drums and get tones and levels on location.
This band had made arrangements with a local nightclub to use their room during the day when the club was empty.

Eric Desart
Bert Stoltenborg made an announcement that Eric Desart passed away yesterday.
Eric was a moderator for this forum for a period of time - and was a rather brilliant man in the field of acoustics.
He will be missed.

Re-doing a friend's studio
An old friend of mine wants me to re-do his recording studio. I design, he builds.
Basically, what he has now are 2 nice sized rooms and one small control room. Concrete and blocks.
First thing I've done is ask him for exact dimensions and construction materials, fixture locations, etc.

Office Sound Isolation
Hello...
My editor and I just moved into new offices and it seems that we can hear more external sound than we did.
The outside hallway is wood and our doors have windows.
The offices are 9'x12'x8' (WxDxH) and there is no insulation above the drop-ceiling.
