Description
The term ADAT has come to stand for both the original digital tape machines and also for the lightpipe data transmission system. The ADAT lightpipe has become an audio industry standard for digital data transmission between units other than the original ADAT tape machines.

ADAT or S/PDIF ?

Im running an E-MU 1820 that is connected to my computer through the sound card that came with it. It uses a wide cable that is similar in appearance to a LAN network cable. I can switch the settings through its DSP software to use either ADAT or S/PDIF. It still runs through the same cable even when I switch settings but I cant really tell any difference.

16 channel i/o from analog board to computer or repair ADAT?

I know, newbie question but heres my deal. I'm a drummer looking into offering "drum overdub" type of services. Occasionally do recording of bands, etc. serious hobby at this time. Currently have Soundcraft Spirit Studio 16ch board and 2 ADAT LX-20s with some other outboard gear. I bought the ADATs off EBay with less than 500 hours each and one is giving me errors and taking my tape, etc.

96k ADAT to Tascam fw1884

I wonder if somebody can direct me.

I have a fw1884 and also a Focusrite isa428 that i would like to get the ad card for.

My question is, the fw1884 has only one optical ADAT in and S/PDIF stereo in, assuming that one ADAT connector can only do 8 channels at 44.1k could I just hook up one of the ADATs and still get 4 channels at 96k?
