I've been tracking opera this week and running a back up system with a RME Multiface conected to a HP powerbook through the RME cardbus interface. the PC running Win XP pro and Sequoia 7.22 (recording 4 stereo tracks at 24/44.1).

I've been huntin around for a while and can't seem to find a basic block diagram-level explanation of how ASIO drivers route audio data. Seems like this should be out there somewhere... Anyone have a good source for this info?

I am currently running a Behringer Ultragain Pro-8 Digital (mic preamp) which is going Digital Optical out into a MOTU 828 which is then going firewire out into my computer. As for software, I am cheap, and I feel like an idiot saying this here but I'm running Cool Edit Pro 2.0. . Oh and BTW I'm running Windows 2000, so yes this is a PC.

Currently Im using an Audiophile on my first computer and am very happy with its rock solid driver performance.

I need another card for my second computer only for its ASIO drivers, so I won't be needing high quality ADDA, MIDI I/O.

Should I expect the same performance with M-Audio's Revolution 5.1 for vst instruments playing?

I am using an external Mixer with my M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound card. I have the main outs of the mixer going into my compressor, which is then fed into the sound card. The audio outs of the sound card go back into the "2 track input" of my mixer, so I can monitor the processed signal via my mixer.

Just solved a problem in the DAW concerning offline processing (track bouncing artifacts w/ plugin applied), by moving back to ASIO drivers (from WDM.)

What is it exactly about ASIO that makes it superior to WDM (or, is it)?

the one thing i hate abt digi 002 is that when i switch from one application to another it insults and say sorry pal the device is busy rendering services to other software so get rid of that application and then work. and as soon as i do it sometime it works with other applications and sometime i have to re-start my pc. it just get stuck i mean the digi 002 does'nt contact with the computer.

ASIO to a recording/audio newbie?
