I want to use a compressor for my guitar, but I need some tips on what might work.

Most guitar amps compress the signal from the guitar. This happens mostly in the power amp stage of the amp. It is caused by the power supply sagging when the guitar drives the amp hard.

Wondering what you guys are doing when it comes to straping a stereo compressor on the 2-bus. What are you using plugin or analog?

ive been thinking of getting the bellari rp220 (preamp)and the rp583(compressor)these units are in my price range and i dont want to be dissapointed as they will be my first set of decent comp & pre.
how well do these work compared to other units in this price range?
should i get something else insted?

I thought a tube compressor would compliment my Alan Smart C-1 nicely for my 2-bus and final master to CD but can't for the life of me find any glowing reviews anywhere on the unit. It's obviously a high-endpiece of gear but from what I read on forums though the Manley vari-mu (which I couldn't afford) definitely is preferred by most.

I'm trying to run my condensor mic into a compressor, then into my MBox 1. I have phantom power on the MBox turned on. the settings on the compressor are all set to allow a signal to go through (bypass is turned off, threshold is at 0db).

Problem: NO SIGNAL when using a condensor mic.

Anyone know of any Native plugin that comes close to UAD's LA-2A and the 1176LN emulation.

I will be getting a UAD pack in about a month. But untill then I need a plugin that has the Lushness and Creamyness of the UAD's LA-2A .

Hi. I love how the compressor on the Avalon 737SP sounds for vocals (among other things). I am working in a new studio (for me) and I have available: 1176 LN, LA-4, dbx 165A (which I hate), 160XT (love this for bass), VP Dyna.mite, Aphex Compellor. Which of these would you say is more like the one on the Avalon? The 1176 LN or the LA-4? Thanks

in my home studio, I am ready to take the leap from using compressor plugins to buying a decent 2 channel tube/valve hardware compressor.

I have around £500 ($1000) to spend and need something that would be a good allrounder (vox, bass, drums, guitars). Something that is also ok to run stereo mixes through would be an advantage.

I should know this but I am getting two answers (from two engineers). I am mixing in Pro Tools. In the signal chain, should I put a compressor first and then an eq or the other way around? And why. Thanks.
