Just wondering, how many feel the DAW revolution is kicking our ass out of the business. Where will the big studio be in the next few years? How many were there two years ago and how many will be operating next year?

Opus, has this same forum in DAWworld, it makes no sense having two (dups of threads) so we're going to shut computing down in Pro Talk and direct everyone over to DAWworld.

I am looking at purchasing something along the lines of a used Yamaha AW4416 and would like some input as to what is out there that would be comparable. Are the other 16 track units in the same league, or does the AW4416 stand alone because of the automated mixdown capabilities, etc.

Hey...ya know we have a bunch of LA people hanging out in these forums and I think it would be really cool to get together and possibly create an RO song. .

Here's one I can share to start the ball rolling, it's how I get a separate 'normal drums' mix AND a 'compressed drum mix' - in Pro Tools, I imagine it would translate to any DAW software

Tip:

Use "duplicate track' on the drums and the aux bus they are routed too.

I am considering purchasing an analog reel-reel 8 track recorder and using it along with my DAW which consists of a Gadget Labs 824 soundcard and N-track. I would like to record bass and drums on the reel-reel and the rest on the DAW, can these two machines be accurately synced together? How does one go about doing this?

I heard a lot of things about signal degradation when doing internal mixdowns in DAWs. Up until now, it's what I have always done, but I started getting really interested in finding out what other options I have.
