Description

Since its introduction in the mid 1970's, the dbx 160 series has been the world's most popular line of audio compressors. After the classic 160 (which is still used daily in many world class studios), came the 165, the 160X and the 160XT. The 160X/XT were the models that truly became the industry standard.

Differences between dbx 160a, 160x, 160xt compressors

Hey all. Quick question: what's the difference between the dbx 160a, 160x and 160xt compressors? I don't own any of them, but I'd like to and it seems the 160x's are the cheapest, followed by the xt's then the a's (on ebay and at used gear shops). I've looked all over the Internet and even on dbx's website, but I can't find any glaring difference.

dbx 160 vs. dbx 161

Does anyone know the significant difference between the dbx 160 and the dbx 161 besides balanced vs unbalanced? is it only the transformers?

I have inherited a pair of 161 and would like to make them into the 160 if it is at all a reasonable project.

any advice, info, links would be hugely appreciated!

thanks
