what prefade means in a DAW
I have a question that may be stupid but is definitley confusing me.
I have a Q10 with Cubase SX. In the Q10 manual, it states that prefade in the Q10 mixer allows you to monitor the sound level coming into the sound card, independent of the fader position, where post-fade is the sound going into your DAW software after the fader.

Maximum simultaneous channels on DAW?
First off:
Hi all, I'm a new member trying to find answers to a question that has plagued me for months.
I'm looking to put together a small studio system that will be able to record 24 tracks at once to disk (like many I've had enough with ADAT tapes).

SMPTE and DAW's
Wondering, why dont sequencers and the like have buit in SMPTE decoders. Steinberg products in this case. I would suppose having a SMPTE setup option where you define which audio input channel is recieving SMPTE. The decoding happens within the DAW.
that aside, which is the cheapest SMPTE - MTC stand alone converter in the market ?
thanks
Sidhu

The best way to work with a digital computer with a DAW
If you have a digitlal mixer, it seems that you really should route all your tracks from your from your DAW to the mixer. If you don't, then you can't use any of the effects of your mixer, nor can you sum in the mixer which would allow you to use routing, pan and other controls on your mixer,. You might as well just get a controller, no?

Hi
after years of creating music with an average pc, cheap soundcard and cracked software Ive decided to invest in a proper set up (including purchasing the programs and plugins Ive 'trialed' extensivly).
Im collecting information on the best equipment for my needs and have spent a month gaining a lot of info off this site before making my first post.

analog 2 inch wind down sound on DAW?
It may be a rather childish question but can anyone help out on this. I know some have heard this, but you know that sound, used mostly at the end of pop-punk songs where it sounds as if the song just slows and stops. The most recent example I can think of is in the new Lil Jon song "What you gon do" radio edit version during the chorus on the word $hit.

Water Cooling for DAW
Does anyone here use a water cooling system for their DAW? I have seen a lot of people writing about getting quieter fans, but it seems that if you really want a quiet system, you should spend more cash and get a nice water cooling system.

Building a New DAW
Hey everyone -
Lookin for some quick help to make sure I;m not making a glaring error- building a new DAW in the 700 dollar range. I record 16 tracks at the same time at 24/96, and looking for a machine to mix them on effectively, without huge latencies.
PC platform, building around 2 Delta 1010's as my soundcards.
