Distorted Guitar vs. Everything else
When I track a guitar w. distortion, I seem to get different sounding results than when I'm recording almost any other type of sound. Basically, the track sounds flatter and less energetic to a far greater degree than most instruments.

Recording Distorted Guitar
Hey it's me again. Anyways I was recording the distorted guitar parts for my friend's band and I couldn't seem to get it to sound right. It sounds too distorted and like there is too much high frequency. The mic is placed about an inch away from the amp, I'm using an Audix dynamic mic to record. We are using a metal zone but the distortion is turned down almost all the way.

microphone for distorted guitars
does anyone know of an up market mic designed for heavily distorted guitars, something that will retain the warmth and richness of the tone while not hardening at higher sound levels?

Tracking distorted guitar clean?
Is it considered a valid option to track heavy and distorted guitars clean, leaving the option to choose a sound at a later date?
Say for example you've got the riff off to a tee, but you can't find the sound
straight the way.

question about close mic recording for distorted guitars...
I'm getting ready to record guitars and I have a potential problem. I'm not using a room mic but only 2 (MD421, and SM57) mics on the 4x12 cabinet right on the cones (one offset) and the other pointed at the center cone. My space isn't but so big, about 22x12, and we are currently rehearsing in the space as well.
