dithering explained

Forums

Ok, i am about to prove how novice i am. Several of the programs and hardware i've come across cam process audio at higher sampling rates and bit rates than CD format 44.1/16 bit. I have recorded songs at 48k, and 24 bit, only to find myself unable to "bounce" it back to 44.1/16 bit.
Is dithering the process i'm out of touch on?
Confused, and thanks for any help.

192 vs 96 quality dithering to 44.1?

What is the point of recording at 192 htz or 96 htz when you have to dither everything down to 44.1htz to burn it to a CD? Does it sound better? I don’t understand why to buy a 24 bit 192 htz vs 24 bit 92 htz if you dither down to burn a CD? I am thinking of gettting the Aleis 24xz but it only records up to 96khz.

Dither: Still needed with 24-bit recording?

I have been reading a lot of articles explaining dither (because I didn't understand what that setting did in my sequencer program) and I now have a good understand about what dither is but none of the articles have cleared this up?

When recording at 24-bit does dither need to be used if the dynamic range is small and the peak levels around -6Bd?

sampling frequency and dithering tools

Hello,

Just out of curiosity would like to know what each of the members here on RO use for recording if the final goal the usual 44.1 16 bits...

Do you guys use 44.1, 48, 88 or 96 kHz ? And if so why ? If using higher sampling frequencies than 44.1 what dithering tools do you use ?

Thanks in advance
