I just found out about the CraneSong dithering CD and went & checked it out on their web site. I saw your CraneSong dithering endorsement so I thought I would ask for your opinion on it.

A query here about getting from 24 bit 44.1 kHz sessions to 16 bit 44.1 kHz files.

Usually I BTD the session and import into a 24 bit session where I use mastering software and lastly POW-r dither on the master fader, then I bounce to a 16 bit file.

OK...this is a topic we started in the middle of another thread elsewhere here on RO, and I think it deserves a thread of its own. I was going to post it under the pluginsforum, but felt that it would get more attention here.

I've been advised to use the dithered mixer for mixing only and not to record with it. Just checking in that this info is generally correct.

I have a question regarding the now ancient Korg 168RC recording console.
Does anyone know if it has dither on any of it’s outputs, I know it operates at 24 bit internal resolution but I can’t find any info on the dither issue.I would also appreciate any opinions regarding any 168RC experience.

Is it true to say: "Truncating without dithering is always a bad thing"?

As a follow-up:

A customer who has mixed at 24-bit, suppplies the 2-track mixes in 16-bit (I appreciate that you would prefer the 24-bit masters, but you ain't gettin' 'em). Would you ask for these to have dither applied by the customer?

Hi everybody,

If, while tracking, you dither down to 16 bit from an external converter to an MDM, or any digital multi for that matter, what are the cumulative affects of the dither at mixdown? Particularly UV22-HR.
