Drum software and quantinization

I am a guitar player, not a drummer. I don't own a drum set. However, the music I like to create usually needs custom drum tracks for accents and alternative rhythms.
There are tons of software drum machines around, however most are programmable using the beat grid. When I see that grid, all inspiration for recording is gone. Forget it. It always ends up sounding fake anyway.

drum software - Ocean Way Platinum vs. Mixosaurus Kit

Okay so I know its sacrilegious to many a engineer here, but I've become a believer in midi instruments... Sorry Logic Studio won me over with its Indie Kit. So I'm planning on expanding my library. I've been looking at the drum software out there and was wondering if anyone has some hands on knowledge of a few of them. My decision is between Ocean Way Platinum and Mixosaurus Kit.

drum software

I've never used any type of drum software before and was wondering how realistic is it, and is it easy to use? (I've never really used midi before either). I've read some reviews on ez drummer, drumcore, and bfd and am not yet sure what I'd be getting into. I just don't want to waste money on something I may not use. If it helps, the music I do ranges from mellow acoustic to hard rock.
