help! why do these drums sound like crap?

hey guys, what the hell am i doing wrong. this is a simple recording of the drums, no EQ's or compression or effects. i've been fooling around with mic placement for a few weeks now and nothing seems right, ..the skins are all fine and tuned...it just sounds ...bad, i dont know what else to say. maybe one of your trained ears can point something out by listening to it...

Drums Sample CD recommendation

I'm looking for some good drum sample CDs, preferably stored in .wav file formats. I saw the Ross Garfield Drums 1 and 2 (Drum Doctors, I think) sample discs mentioned a long long time ago but I can't find the post and the search function is pretty much useless (no offense.) Mixerman might have mentioned the Bob Clearmountain...that was a long time ago too.

recording drums

I will be recording drums for a project that I'm doing, and i think due to budget and what I have available I have to use this setup:

Audix drum mics(snare, hi hat, 2 toms, kick, 2 overheads)>Yamaha mixer into my Tascam US-122. Im using Sonar 4 producer edition. I would prefer to use seperate tracks for each but like I said thats not really possible.

tracking drums comp/lim. etc.

1.) I am tracking drums with a Soundcraft Ghost. I have two outboard pre's a dbx 576 and a nice Joemeek (not sure what model borrowed) I was thinking of using the meek on the kick and the 576 on the snare? Any suggestions?

2.) Also, I have never tracked drums, would compress and/or limit kick and/or snare at the recording and/or mixing stage?
