Looking for a very detailed mic preamp to go with the more colored units I have, Neve, 737, 610 on order. Anyone compared or have experience with the M5, 2022, Grace, or Earthworks pre's.

I have used B&K 4006 mics (they are omnis) and was amazed by their sound quality. (The 4000 series mics are now distributed by DPA.) I would love to buy a pair, but that would cost in the neighborhood of $4,000.

Can someone who has had experience with both please compare and contrast the:

High Sensitivity:
B&K / DPA 4003 and 4006 versus the EarthWorks QTC1

all mics are small diagram condensers, but not the same type.

-the mxl 603 is 3/4" & wide caroid, the price is less than $100.-!

I was just wondering if anyone here has had experience with this unit.
In checking out the Lab 101pre I was a little confused with the output configuration.
I read a review (on the Earthworks site, a link to Mix mag.) that the outs were not “necessarily” balanced, even though they are XLR and TRS.

I'm considering a pair of Earthworks omni's for a variety of applications, such as drum overheads, rooms, upright bass, acoustic guitar, etc. The only thing that concerns me is their high self noise, especially with the TC30ks, which is what i would prefer since they're half the price of the QTC1s.
