Description

The Gefell M 296 S condenser microphone is an addition to the metal diaphragm microphone family which includes the M 294 / M 295. Based on the early linear frequency response of the transmission factor up to 20 kHz it guarantees orthophonic recordings in the near and far field as well as recordings of high sound levels. It is designed for professional applications in radio and television broadcasting, sound studios, concert halls, theaters and for high-quality recordings of all genres.

The direction of maximum sensitivity is axial. The stable capsule contains a large diameter metal diaphragm similar to our reliable measuring microphone cartridges regarding its construction as a pressure transducer. Capsule and impedance converter are a single unit.

The transformerless microphone preamplifier shows a high output capability and has a symmetrical output stage. A 10 dB preattenuation pad and the bass roll-off extend the application range. The two switches are located in the middle of the preamplifier.

The microphone is equipped with a standard 3-pin XLR connector fitting to a microphone cable, e.g. C70. The operation voltage is provided by 48 V phantom powering according to the international standards DIN 45596 and IEC 268-15. The M 296 S is a special edition designed for measurement applications. Its frequency response complies with DIN EN 60 651for Class 2 sound level meters.

Gefell M296

I am thinking of taking the plunge and acquiring a pair of MG M296 omnis. I will use them A-B for choral recording in a church but also hope to experiment with the omni as the mid element in an MS array (MKH30 as figure of 8) for nature recording. Looking for that greater sense of spaciousness every one talks about with omnis as I think that this will suit me.

Hi!

Here is one piece from the recording in finland with Markus Wargh.
But you must pay attention that it's a wooden church. So the
acoustics is pretty bad.

Sorry for the low compression on the file...But i don't have sufficient space on the web for my files.

What do guy's think about this recording ?
