Impedance
An expression of the opposition that an electronic component, circuit or system offers to AC or DC current. Impedance contains both resistive and reactive components, although generally only the resistive part of the circuit is usually quote in specifications as Ohms. So the higher the resistance, the higher the impedance.

Low Impedance
A loosely defined audio term used to describe devices whose input or output impedance is less than approximately 5,000 Ohms. For microphones, Lo-Z commonly is 50 - 1,000 Ohms.

RF Impedance
The characteristic impedance of an antenna, cable or conductor. A value of 50 ohms is generally used for coaxial cables and RF interface points in wireless systems.

Impedance question
How does the impedance of a microphone impact the sound? I am comparing two mics that are rated 100 and 120 Ohms. Since impedance is a measure of electrical resistance, does this mean that the 100 Ohm model is more sensitive, or that it picks up nuance better, since it takes less force to move the coil?

why is impedance so important?
A buddy of mine let me borrow his Great River Mp2nv and I fell in love with the thing however there is one thing bothering me. When he's tracking a song from his motif xs to Pro Tools he always has the impedance switch in. He's tracking everything from kick, snare, guitars, bass, piano pretty much everthing is with the impedance switch on.
Is this a good thing?

Power Amp Speaker Impedance Woes
Hi there - I recently purchased a cheap 100watt stereo power amp from maplins for use in my guitar rack system(I got fed up of lugging my 20kg tube power amp around!) .

Impedance
OK, I've spent a bit of time searching here and on wiki, etc. but I can't find anything to sum up the whole concept of impedance in audio gear.

line vs. . mic splitters and Impedance
Hi all,
I'm slowly getting my head a tiny bit around the impedance thing.
Unfortunately my funds cannot always follow my simple understanding.
For examle:
The palmer pms-02 and pls-02 are both passive splitters, the mic one has an input impedance of 200Ohm and the line one of 600Ohms.
