does anyone make or are ther plans to make a multi-channel firewire recording interface without expensive mic preamps built in?

I want a device to interface with my DAW that I can plug all my high-end mic preamps into without spending lots of extra cash on so-so preamps that come bundled with most of the interfaces available today.

I need to know firewire interface compatibility with PTLE 6.9.

As long as I have LE hardware hooked-up (M-Box or 002), is it just a matter of directing PTLE to the additional interface (said interface connected to a FW 400/800 PCI card)? Will it be automatically recognized by PTLE and available for routing?

My system (to be):
LynxTwo B into Cubase SX3 for audio recording, and a MOTU 2408 mkII with S/PDIF I/O for outboard effects (Kurzweil Rumour/Mangler).

I need an all-in-one recording interface for my laptop. Very unhappy with the M-Audio MobilePre USB. Like to spend 3 to 6 hundred depending on quality and features, but open to a bit more. More inputs would be nice, but 2 very high quality inputs at a low price would be desirable.

Rate the following audio interfaces.. which one(s) would you rate the best? if possible, answer why?

How come the digi002 only goes up to about 1000 samples and my soundcard which is a peice of crap supports much much much more samples for playback? I cant even play back some songs with not that many tracks because of it.

what smaller audio interfaces have a good buffer size?

or do I need a soundcard for a good buffer size?

I dont need these huge interfaces with 20 inputs. I just want something with at least two in two out. firewire.

and with converters that are stellar quality.

Hello everyone. I have a few questions on interfaces. Im looking into getting an interface, and keep hearing people giving mixed reviews on a few of these. Just want to know the best way to go.

PreSonus Firepod- I know the previous version of this just sucked, and the firepod is the new and improved version. It has really solid eureka preamps.

I am toying with the idea of using a laptop for recording recitals, audition tapes, and eventually to record band and orchestra concerts. I'm pondering the idea of starting by using a laptop and some kind of firewire based interface to record all this classical music.
